EXPLORE HANOI CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS
After breakfast, we'll head to our first stop, the Temple of Literature (Quoc Tu Giam). This historic site draws students seeking inspiration ahead of major exams, and it's also a popular venue for official ceremonies and holiday events, making it one of Hanoi's most recognizable landmarks.
From there, we continue to the Ho Chi Minh Complex, a deeply significant site built to honor President Ho Chi Minh. At its heart is the Mausoleum, where his preserved body draws visitors from across Vietnam and around the world.
Just outside the Mausoleum lies Ba Dinh Square, a place woven into major moments of Vietnamese history. It was here, on September 2, 1945, that President Ho Chi Minh delivered the Declaration of Independence, marking the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Next, we'll visit the Presidential Palace, an elegant French colonial-era building that once served as the president's workplace.
Just behind it stands Ho Chi Minh's Residence, offering a glimpse into the modest, simple lifestyle he maintained throughout his life.
We'll also stop by the One Pillar Pagoda, a uniquely designed structure dating back to 1049, before ending our time in the complex at the Ho Chi Minh Museum, dedicated to honoring his legacy and contributions.
From here, we'll make our way to West Lake to visit Quan Thanh Temple, one of Hanoi's four sacred temples. It's a great chance to learn about Vietnam's Taoist traditions while taking in scenic views over the city's largest natural lake.
There are two options for the afternoon itinerary.
Option 1:
In the afternoon, we'll explore the Museum of Ethnology (note: closed on Mondays), a fascinating research and exhibition space dedicated to Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups. Beyond browsing indoor and outdoor displays, you may have the chance to take part in cultural activities such as traditional festivals or water puppet performances.
To close out the day, we'll take a relaxed one-hour cyclo ride through the lively 36 Streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter. Winding through these narrow, bustling lanes, you'll get an up-close look at the countless small businesses and shopkeepers that give the area its energetic character. The evening finishes on a high note with a traditional water puppet show.
Option 2:
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walking tour through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, where narrow streets, colonial architecture, and local daily life reflect the city’s long history and vibrant atmosphere.
To end the day, sit down and enjoy a traditional egg coffee at a local café, a perfect way to experience one of Hanoi’s most iconic drinks before returning to your accommodation.
